The Kenya National Football League was abandoned due to intense wrangling between officials. Abaluhya FC were at the time leading by one point ahead of Kenya Breweries FC.

Kenya Breweries FC, which was formed a year earlier, posed a serious challenge, boosted by several players recruited from Abaluhya FC and Gor Mahia.

Harambee Stars qualify for AFCON

Led by German coach Eckard Krautzun Kenya qualified for the 1972 Africa cup of nations, forĀ  the first time ever. This after they beat Mauritius 2-1 at home before drawing 0-0 away.
