Abaluhya FC emerged as the winners of the Kenya National Football League. Gor Mahia were runners up.

In the quarter-finals, Gor Mahia eliminated Burnley FC of Mombasa 2-1 while Abaluhya beat Feisal of Mombasa 3-1. This set up a derby semi-final between Gor Mahia and Abaluhya. The tense match was scoreless after 90 minutes. In the 10th minute of extra time, Gor Mahia striker Ben Oballa scored. Abaluhya protested and refused to resume play. The match was awarded to Gor Mahia.

In the final, Gor Mahia lost 3-2 to Nakuru All Stars. Gor Mahia played most of the second half with 9 players following an injury to Arthur Omondi and a red card to Paul Ndula.

The formation of Kenya Breweries FC (Now Tusker FC)

Following a directive by the Caretaker committee to encourage the formation of corporate teams as opposed to ethnic teams, Kenya Breweries FC was formed in 1970. The formation was spearheaded by Kenneth Matiba. Kenya Breweries immediately became a force to reckon with. They recruited several players from Abaluhya FC: John Nyawanga, Livingstone Madegwa, Haggai Makunda, Henry Misango and Harrison Nyangweso. From Gor Mahia FC, they recruited Samson Odore, Francis Ooko, Henry Obiero and Peter Odera. Kenya Breweries FC (Now Tusker) would go on to become a force to reckon with for the next 40 years.
