Luo Union FC had been formed in 1957 in Mwanza Tanzania by Luos who were at the time working forĀ  Tanganyika Plantation Company in Mwanza. As Tanzania became independent andĀ  Kenya also approached independence, most of them moved to Kenya and thus the club moved to Nairobi.

Luo Union FC won the league title in 1964. It was a star studded side with players like James Sianga, Stephen Yongo and Nicodemus Arudhi.

Luo Union also won the FA cup, by beating Liverpool FC 4-2 in the final at Doonholm road stadium (now known as Nairobi City Stadium). They capped a glorious season by beating the Ethiopian national team in a friendly match.

Luo Union’s dominance caused members of the Abaluhya community to finally unite under one umbrella. Instead of having seperate teams, they Luhya community resolved to create one team in 1964. Thus Bukusu Brothers, Samia Union, Bunyore FC, Kakamega and other teams dissolved and formed Abaluhya FC.
