After winning the gold medal at the World Athletics championships in 2013, Eunice Sum has won her second major even when she captured the gold medal in the women’s 800m at the 2014 commonwealth games.
Sum was in imperious form worthy of a world champion as she controlled the race from the front and winning clearly in 2:00.31.
The mark of a dominant of a dominant 800m runner is the ability to lead from start through the bell to the finish line. Sum did just that.
The crowd roared home Scotland’s Lynsey Sharp to silver in 2:01.43 just 0.04 ahead of bronze medallist Winnie Nanyondo, of Uganda. Kenyan athletes were again prominent in the men’s 10,000m, but on this occasion the result didn’t quite go their way.
