Kenya Football in 2012

Tusker FC clinched the league title on the very last day of the season. Going into the last day, Gor Mahia were at the top of the table, leading by one point. However they drew 1-1 with Thika United on the last day while Tusker beat Nairobi City Stars 3-0 to climb one point ahead of Gor Mahia. Had Gor Mahia won, it would have capped an incredible comeback. When coach Zdravko Logarusic took over as coach, Gor Mahia seemed destined for relegation. With Logarusic at helm, Gor Mahia climbed methodically to the top of the table.

Final League Standings

Domestic Cups

Despite losing the league on the last day, Gor Mahia consoled themselves by winning three trophies. In the FKF cup, they beat Sofapaka 3-0 on penalties in the final. In the Top 8 cup final, Gor Mahia beat Ulinzi 2-0. Then in the Super Cup, Gor Mahia beat Tusker 5-4 on penalties.

CECAFA Cups

The CECAFA senior challenge cup was held in Uganda. Kenya reached the final before losing 2-1 to Uganda. Edwin Lavatsa had scored an 87th minute equalizer for Kenya, only for Uganda to score the winner in injury time.

In the CECAFA club cup, Tusker FC were eliminated in the preliminaries from a three team group after registering two scoreless draws.

Continental Club Cups

Tusker were eliminated in the preliminary round of the CAF champions league, losing 1-0 on aggregate to APR of Rwanda.

Gor Mahia had a disastrous campaign in the CAF confederations cup. They were eliminated in the preliminary round to Ferroviario de Maputo losing 3-0 away and 1-0 at home.
