Florence Kiplagat sets new world record

It was deja vu as Florence Kiplagat broke the world half marathon record at the exact same venue in which she broke it in 2014.

Her winning time of 1:05:09 shaved three seconds off her previous world record set 12 months ago. She also set world records* for 15km and 20km en route to her winning performance.

The conditions were perfect for a world record attempt. There was no wind and the temperature was 10 degrees celsius. The pacemakers Marc Roig and Ezekiel Kipchirchir, performed an excellent job as they dragged Kiplagat through the 5km mark in 15:38 and 10km mark in 31:01, which is eight seconds ahead of her world record pace in 2014.

The previous record for 15km was held by Ethiopian legend Tirunesh Dibaba. Kiplagat shaved an incredible 14 seconds off that record by running 46:14.40. She then shaved 3 seconds off her own 20km record by clocking  1:01:54.
