The 1991 All Africa games were held in Cairo Egypt. Four years earlier in Nairobi, Kenya had won 8 gold medals in boxing. But their fortunes plunged significantly in 1991. On that occassion, only one Kenyan made it to a boxing final. That is Heavyweight Joseph Akhasamba who won a silver medal. He lost to Nigeria’s David Izonritei in the final. Akhasamba had made a transition from light-heavy to heavyweight that year, after having won the commonwealth games gold medal in 1990. SuperHeavyweight David Miriambo Anyim garnered a bronze medal. No Kenyan won a gold medal.
