Kenya emerged as the champions at the boxing champions at the 1982 Commonwealth games with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The gold medals came from Hussein “Juba” Khalili, Michael “Spinks” Mutua and Ibrahim Wachire Bilali. The silver medal came from Charles Owiso and the bronze medal came from Mohamed Abdalla “Kent”
Also notable is the fact that the 1982 Commonwealth games is the only occasion where athletics did not win the majority of gold medals for Kenya. In fact athletics produced only one gold medal for Kenya compared to the three that came from boxing.
