1972 Africa boxing championships medalists

The 1972 Africa boxing championships were held in Nairobi Kenya. It was the fifth time Kenya was participating in this event. And it was Kenya’s best ever performance with five gold medals. Kenya finished second in the medal standings behind Uganda who also won five gold medals and two silvers. This was the golden era of Uganda boxing. Two years earlier Uganda had emerged as the Commonwealth games boxing champions with three gold medals.

The gold medals came via John Mwaura Nderu, Samuel Mbugua, Dick Tiger Murunga, David Attan and Stephen Thega. While Peter Dula won a silver medal.
