Kenya Women’s basketball in momentous win over Egypt

Kenya recorded a massive win over Egypt at the Africa Zone 5 basketball championships when they beat Egypt 70-64. It was the 3rd succesive win for Kenya after beating Tanzania and Burundi each by over 30 points. The side coached by former Kenya international Ronny Owino are now a step away from qualifying for the Africa women’s basketball championships.

Skipper Silalei Shani and Vice Skipper Hilda Indasi were in sensational form scoring 19 points each. Kenya had a stormer of a first half taking the 1st quarter 18-14 and leading 35-18 at half time. Egypt however came back in the second half outscoring Kenya by 13 points in the last quarter. It was however not enough to erase the deficit.

The win is a momentous one for Kenya. Not many expected Kenya to beat Egypt. Last year the Egyptian Under 18 womens team beat their Kenyan counterparts 83-49.

Kenya now face Uganda in the last match. A win over Uganda will see them qualify for the Africa women’s basketball championships.
