Please remove the running track from City stadium

This is a model of the planned City stadium from state house website. This elaborate model is a pipe dream. They just need to build an adequate stadium

The Nairobi city stadium is finally going to receive a much needed facelift. The last time it was upgraded was in the late 1980s when the main stand was built. A subsequent project installed the playing surface.

Modern football stadia do not have a running track around them. And there is absolutely no reason to keep the running track. The last time an athletics meet was held there was over 25 years ago. Ever since the tartan track was installed at Nyayo stadium, athletes have had no use for city stadium.

With that in mind, the government should strongly consider getting rid of the track and building terraces much closer to the field. This improves the sight lines and having a more electric atmosphere within the stadium.

New Terraces Please

One of the biggest disappointments in the recent construction projects at the stadiums in Kisumu and Mombasa is the fact that no new terraces were built. Thus the capacity remained the same. Fans will be hoping the new terraces will be built at the City stadium so as to increase the seating capacity from 15,000 to 30,000.

More chairs and better facilities please

Currently the main stand has no chairs. Yet clubs like Gor Mahia and AFC charge as much as Ksh 600 for the mains stand. By installing chairs , better wash rooms and other facilities, the stadium will be able to attract more fans and thus make more money.
