Football Kenya Federation withdrew the Kenya women’s U17 team which was due to play Equatorial Guinea in a World cup qualifier.
The reason given by FKF is that they did not receive sufficient communication from their Guinean hosts.
“The team will not be travelling since we are yet to get communication from the Equitorial Guinea federation on the modalities of the game and where it was supposed to be played .It will be difficult to release the team without any concrete information,” said Michael Esakwa of FKF.
This is perhaps the funniest and silliest excuse that any Federation in Kenya has ever given. Just when you thought that FKF could not sink any lower, they just did.
If indeed they did not receive sufficient communication from the Equatorial Guinea Association then why did they not take the issue to CAF ?
If indeed their was no communication from the hosts then Kenya should have been awarded a walk-over and Equatorial Guinea should have been sanctioned by CAF.
It turns out that the real reason that the team failed to travel is that FKF waited until the last moment to get passports for the players, by which time it was too late to travel.
It is a sad day for Kenya football and for the U17 girls who have been training hard and looking forward to playing in the World Cup qualifier.
Yet this is what happens when the FKF chairman gets rid of anyone who demands accountability and instead surrounds himself with sycophants.
