The 1995 All African games were held in Harare Zimbabwe. Kenya put on a decent performance. With a team of ten boxers, Kenya won two gold medals, one silver and four bronze medals. It was a drastic improvement over the 1991 All Africa games where Kenya had won only one silver medal.
The gold medals came via Peter Odhiambo Opiyo and Omar Ahmed “Kassongo”. The silver medal came via Evans Ashira Oure. The bronze medals came via George Maina, Duncan Karanja, Peter Bulinga and David Miriambo Anyim
Evans Ashira Oure left the amateaur ranks in 1998. Nicknamed “The African Warrior” and based in Denmark, he compiled an impressive record of 29 wins and 3 losses.
