Kenya rugby captain Aberdeen Shikhoyi passes away

Sad news engulfed the Kenya Rugby fraternity on Saturday night following the news that inspirational captain, Aberdeen Shikhoyi had passed away. She succumbed to a spinal injury picked up 1 week ago in the opening leg of the Elgon cup played in Kampala.

The injury happened when Shikhoyi was kneed in the back. Witnesses say it was worsened when she was stepped on in the neck. Following the injury, she was airlifted from Kampala to Nairobi where she was undergoing treatment at the Nairobi hospital. Kenya women beat Uganda 15-3 to lift the Elgon cup and dedicated the win to their captain who had been recuperating.

The KRFU paid tribute to Shikhoyi ,in a released statement which read “The Kenya Rugby Union, and the entire rugby fraternity is thankful for the service,dedication and leadership Aberdeen offered to the game of rugby and is saddened by her passing.”
