Caroline Omamo was stellar basketball player first for the Kenya national team and later for Abilene Christian University where she was all conference honors, was voted conference MVP and was voted to the ACU sports hall of fame.At 6’2″, she was a prolific scorer and rebounder for ACU and for the Kenya national team before she left for the US.She was born in Kisumu on 29 Nov.1968. The Lakeside town has been a deep well of talent and a major production line for basketball talent in Kenya.
She first made a name for herself playing for Posta which at the time was one of the top teams in Kenya.

Omamo was a member of the Kenya team that finished second at the 1994 Africa basketball championships for women. This is to date the best performance ever by any Kenyan basketball team. That performance saw them qualify for the World championships of 1994. There Omamo was the 3rd leading scorer for Kenya behind Nasila Achieng Onjiko and Mercy Owiti. Omamo averaged 8.3 points per game. Her best performances was against New Zealand where she scored 17 points as Kenya lost 76-93.

Following her superb performances for the Kenya national team, Omamo earned a basketball scholarship to Abilene Christian University in 1994.
According to the ACU sports website, Omamo was a three-time all-Lone Star Conference selection. She also won the LSC MVP in the 1997-98 season. She was a two-time postseason LSC tournament MVP. She was a key player on an ACU team that won 49 straight games and spent most of the 1995-96 season ranked #1 in the nation. She played in 48 of the 49 games, the most of anyone on the team. She led the team in rebounding for 3 straight years. She also led the team in scoring in 1998.
She finished as the 10th leading scorer all time in the history of ACU basketball and the 7th leading rebounder. The feat saw her elected to the ACU hall of fame in October 2010.
Sadly Caroline Omamo passed away in August of 2015

caroline omamo a great competitor as a player at posta. an unasuming player who had a good perimeter shot and let the ball do the talking. her achievements at acu is there for all to see. comes from a bb family as has many brothers who were also good players vincent oyunga (bbk) and now nba assistant fixtures secretary and fred oyunga (kcb lions)
