Youtube man Julius yego came within 83cm of winning a historic medal for Kenya. With a toss of 85.40m, Yego broke the kenya national record. Few had given him a chance of winning a medal. Yego who earned the nickname “youtube man” because he is self trained and learned training techniques by watching youtube surprised everyone. He was well in contention to win a medal in the last round before Russian Tarabin tossed his Javelin to a distance of 86.23 to pip Yego.
It is a significant improvement for Yego who finished in position 12 at the 2012 Olympics with toss of 77.15m. It will serve as inspiration to other field event competitors and sprinters in Kenya who are largely ignored by Athletics Kenya. Note that his toss of 85.40m would have won him gold at the 2012 Olympics. Yego certainly has a bright future.
