Hosts Upper Hill are the Nairobi County Secondary Schools boys’ rugby 15s champions after beating Nairobi School 36-3 in the finals on Sunday.
In hockey, Moi Girls retained their title after a 2-1 win over Parklands Arya at the same venue while Hillcrest won the boys’ title after a 3-0 victory over Upper Hill on post-match penalties.
Upper Hill rugby captain Phares Mbadi told Daily Nation Sports the win completed a remarkable campaign.
“It feels so nice to win the title. We started preparing for these games early and our hard work paid. The team deserves the title,” said the skipper.
Upper Hill beat last year’s losing finalists Lenana school 35-7 in the semi-finals while Nairobi School edged out Muhuri Muchiri 22-20.
Scrum half Johnston Olindi continued his fine form in the games, scoring two tries and converting thrice.
Other tries came from Brian Amaitsa, Saida Abdala and Madru Gada. Cedrick Owaga scored a consolation penalty for Nairobi School.
It was Upper Hill’s first title since 2012. Last year, the team were eliminated 8-5 by Lenana in the semis, while Nairobi School lost 9-3 to eventual winners Ofafa Jericho also at the semis.
“Despite the loss, we are glad that we have qualified for the Metropolitan games,” said Nairobi School coach Michael Asava.
In the play-offs, Muhuri Muchiri beat Lenana School 12-10 to finish third.
