The 2012 Olympics were held in London, United Kingdom. The Africa zone qualifying tournament was held in Casablanca Morocco. Only one Kenyan outright qualified for the boxing tournament, that is Flyweight Benson Njagiru Gicharu. It was a drop off from 2008 when 3 Kenyans qualified.
At the tournament, Gicharu lost in the first round to Hesham Mahmoud Abdelaal of Egypt 19-16.
2012 marked the first time that women’s boxing was included in the Olympics. Kenya was represented by Light Middleweight Elizabeth Andiego Odhiambo who received a wild card to the tournament. She lost in the opening round to Marina Volnova of Uzbekistan 20-11.
