The 1983 Africa boxing championships were held in Kampala Uganda. Kenya were the defencing champions, having topped the standings at the previous edition (1982).
This time Kenya finished second behind Zambia. Both Kenya and Zambia had four gold medals but Zambia earned two silver medals to Kenya’s one.
Kenya’s gold medalists were Ibrahim “Surf” Bilali, John Wanjau, Patrick “Mont” Waweru and James “Demosh” Omondi.
