In December 1968, Ronald Ngala the minister for cooperatives and social services, dissolved the Kenya Football Association and the Kenya National Football League. He appointed a Caretaker committee led by Jonathan Njenga who was the commissioner for social services. Thus there was no football league in 1969. Nakuru All Stars won the FA cup, beating Gor Mahia 4-3 in the final. Thus Nakuru were selected to represent Kenya in the 1970 Africa cup of champions.
Gor Mahia played in the Africa cup of club champions. In the first round , the faced Burri of Sudan. They beat Burri 4-2 in the first leg in Sudan then lost the return leg at city stadium 1-0. Kogalo won 4-3 on aggregate.
In the quarter-finals they played against Ismaily of Egypt. Gor Mahia lost the first leg 3-1 in Egypt and drew the return leg 1-1, thereby going out 4-2 on aggregate. Ismaily went on to win the cup.
