Kipsang, Chepchirchir set all comers records in Tokyo

Wilson Kipsang and Sarah Chepchirchir both ran world leading times and set new Japan All comers records at the 2017 Tokyo Marathon which is an IAAF Gold Label race.

Kipsang who is a former marathon world record holder, set a new Tokyo marathon record at 2:03:58 two minutes faster than the previous record which was held by compatriot Dickson Chumba at 2:05:42.

Kipsang who turns 34 next month, was confident before the race.
“I was feeling very good,” said Kipsang, whose performance was the 12th fastest ever run. “The course is very good, but it was bit windy.” said Kipsang.

For Chepchirchir who is 31, this is her first major marathon win. Her only other win over 42km was the Ndakaini marathon. She has previously focused on the half marathon. She won in 2:19:47, which broke the previous record set in 2016 by compatriot Helah Kiprop at 2:21:27
