World half marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei, had a dream debut to her marathon career. On Sunday November 3 2019, she won the New York Marathon. Her time of 2:22:31 was just 7 seconds off the course record set by compatriot Margaret Okayo in 2003. It was an emphatic win for Jepkosgei who won by a whopping 53 seconds. Keitany and Jepkosgei were neck and neck until mile 23 when Jepkosgei picked up the pace. Keitany had no answer.
Jepkosgei set the world half marathon record in 2017. So a lot was expected from her in the full distance. But she postponed her debut a number of times.
