Gor Mahia retained the league with three matches to go following a convincing 3-1 win over arch rivals AFC Leopards. Mount Kenya United finished in last position after their players boycotted several matches to protest lack of payments of their salaries. They had gone six months with no pay. The team had been purchased by politician Francis Mureithi who it turns out was going broke due to legal expenses related to his fight to retain his parliamentary seat.
