The Clubs future

The Future of AFC Leopards Football club is bleak as long as steps are not taken by club management and supporters to raise the lot of the club. Steps must be taken to make the club more self sufficienct financially.

Since its inception, the club has always depended upon the donations of well wishers. Occassionally, well moneyed individuals like Alfred Sambu and Cyrus Jirongo have provided the club with adequate financial support. But such support does not help in making the club financially stable. It only provides a temporary respite from the underlying problem.

The clubs poor financial state has resulted in a substantial drop in the standards of the club resulting in decreased interest from the public and fans. Gone are the days when AFC fans could take for granted the fact that they would be among the top finsishers in the league and contend for regional and continental diadems.

This state of affairs will continue to worsen unless steps are taken by those concerned to transform the club into a financially stable professional unit. Other clubs from Neighbouring countries such as Uganda and Zambia have succeeded in this endevour. So there is no reason why a club with as many fans as AFC Leopards should not do the same.

A match between Telkom and Posta above shows that all is not lost. There is still some fan support to build the club back to the glory days of the eighties.
